Once in a while I buy printed fabric, I just couldn’t resist this one. It is dyed with natural indigo by women of the Bai tribal minority in Yunnan province/South West China. They use an ancient technique of stencilling, stitching and tying the cloth before dying it with indigo.
I would love to sit with these women one day to watch them work and learn from them. So beautiful.
The pattern I used for this dress is self-drafted, here is the book that teaches me basic pattern making Design-It-Yourself Clothes: Patternmaking Simplified.
I lined the dress with silk because there is just nothing like the way silk feels on the skin, the binding is also silk.
The fabric is from Textile Traders.
