I discovered spray painting and love it! It’s such an easy and fun way to bring colour to fabrics and the possibilities are endless. Also, a great project to do with older kids, let them decorate their own tops!
Spray painting is best done on a sunny day, so the paints can dry between applying new colours. Also if you use a ready-made t-shirt, you have to put some newspaper or cardboard between the front and back to avoid paint bleeding through.
I wanted a choice of colours so bought a fabric spray party pack that comes with six cans, it’s more than enough paint to get you started. Oh, one more tip, if you opened a can and won’t use it for some time put it upside down in a glass of water, to prevent the gas from slipping out.
I used an organic cotton/bamboo mix from Organic Textile Company, the pattern is a boys’ tank top from Ottobre magazine 2/05.
And this is what the paper I used underneath the fabric looked like after spraying for several hours (I made a few more tops, got carried away …)
